Flexible Training Delivered On Demand
Elevate Controls offers a suite of Instructor-Led training modules covering the National Instruments LabVIEW platform and related topics in measurement & automation. These modules reflect our 65+ man-years of experience as commercial LabVIEW developers, and the insights that we have gained from training our own applications engineering staff. We believe that they offer the quickest and most cost-effective pathway for new or self-taught LabVIEW programmers to become productive application developers.
We understand that our customers have differing schedules, so we designed our standard training modules to be flexible:
Modules and Pricing
See below for a Table listing all currently available Modules. Modules are charged based on their duration – at the full day rate for the first attendee from any organisation, a 50% discount for the second attendee, and 75% discount for any additional attendees.

Standard Training Modules
| Module | Coverage | Target User | Duration
[days] |
| 1. The Basics of Building a LabVIEW Application | An overview of the LabVIEW development environment with an emphasis on LabVIEW ‘s graphical syntax | Beginner or self-taught LabVIEW programmers. Together these two modules make up our “LabVIEW Essentials” package for new LabVIEW programmers. | 1.5 |
| 2. Understanding Dataflow | A proper understanding of LabVIEW’s graphical dataflow compiler is the single most critical skill needed by every LabVIEW developer | 1 | |
| 3. LabVIEW Development Top-Down | Structured LabVIEW development techniques for building robust, scalable, and maintainable applications | Beginner or self-taught LabVIEW programmers that will be creating enduring applications for other users | 1.5 |
| 4. Introduction to Data Acquisition using NI DAQmx | Concepts & techniques for performing analog and digital IO from NI hardware that uses the DAQmx driver | Any LabVIEW programmer that needs to acquire data from DAQmx hardware including CompactDAQ, PXI and PCI plugin cards and USB devices | 1 |
| 5. Introduction to Data Acquisition using NI CompactRIO | Concepts & techniques for performing analog and digital IO from NI CompactRIO hardware | Any LabVIEW programmer that needs to acquire data from NI CompactRIO hardware | 1 |
| 6a. Introduction to Instrument Communications | Concepts & techniques for performing IO from instruments that communicate via standard protocols including serial, GPIB and Ethernet | Any LabVIEW programmer that needs to acquire data from either or both of:
• External stand-alone instruments via standard comms-protocols • NI “Instrument-Class” modules for PXI/PXIe |
0.5 |
| 6b. Introduction to NI “Instrument-Class” hardware | Concepts & techniques for performing IO from “Instrument-Class” PXI/PXIe modules | 0.5 | |
| 7. Transitioning to LabVIEW | A condensed version of the “LabVIEW Essentials” modules 1 & 2 that highlights the key differences between the LabVIEW dataflow environment and typical procedural languages | Programmers transitioning to the LabVIEW environment that have a solid background in procedural languages such as C/C++, VB or Python. | 1 |
| 8. Transitioning to LabVIEW RT | Points of difference between LabVIEW for Windows and LabVIEW RT | Experienced LabVIEW programmers who are working with NI real-time devices for the first time | 1 |
| 9. NI System Diagnostics | An overview of the NI LabVIEW Platform including all hardware lines, software drivers & utilities, software development environments and software frameworks | Technical staff who operate, maintain, and manage systems based on NI hardware and software, with no compelling requirement to learn LabVIEW itself | 2 |
| 10. Data Management | Concepts and tools for analysing, reporting and archiving data including: TDMS file format; DIAdem; Datafinder; and SystemLink | Any LabVIEW programmer wanting to explore options for data management beyond simple flat-file storage of data in text or Excel formats | 1 |
Special Topics
Special Topics are short modules (≤ 0.5 days) that can be delivered in their own right, or may be included as elements within the Standard Training Modules to customise the content to your specific requirements.
| Topic | Coverage | Why do we offer it? |
| File IO | An overview of all options for performing file IO from LabVIEW:
• TDMS • Text/Excel • General binary formats • Special purpose formats including Datalog and .INI |
Engineering work groups often default to storage of data in text or Excel format on day 1 and never revisit that decision. This module exposes a range of other file IO options supported by LabVIEW. The material also forms part of Standard Training Module10 – Data Management |
| Presenting data in 2D Charts & Graphs | Exposes all the ways of formatting data for display in Waveform Charts, Waveform Graphs, and XY Graphs | Reliably displaying data in 2D charts and graphs can be hit and miss without an understanding of the data formatting framework. |
| Error Handling | Takes a deeper dive into NI’s Error Handling framework, including the capacity to customise it to support your own custom error conditions | We reference NI’s Error Handling framework in almost all the Standard Training Modules. This is for users that want a more complete understanding of how to make use of it. |
| The VI Options Menu | Steps through the major functions of the VI Options menu for customising VI behaviour. | This is a powerful menu for customising VI behaviour, including the ability to assign the thread system and set VI priorities. Most users can probably spend their entire LabVIEW programming careers without going there, but it doesn’t hurt to know what is possible. |
| Flexlogger | An introduction to NI’s stand-alone configurable datalogging software application | A very powerful data acquisition interface for users that don’t need to use LabVIEW – complements the LabVIEW environment |
| Instrument Studio | An introduction to NI’s stand-alone configurable instrument communications software application | A very powerful instrument communications interface for users that don’t need to use LabVIEW – complements the LabVIEW environment |
| DIAdem | An introduction to NI’s stand-alone data analysis and reporting software application | A significantly more capable data analysis and reporting tool than Excel. Included as part of Standard Training Module 10 – Data Managemenrt |
