Traditional data management lags behind the exponential growth in the volume and variety of data collected in modern engineering workplaces.
Elevate Controls’ Engineering Data Management Solution is designed to meet the needs of small to medium-sized engineering groups that must manage, analyse, and report large quantities of mixed-signal data.
Too often, the focus of engineering measurement projects is directed exclusively at the technology for acquiring the data, with little regard to how that data will be analysed, reported and archived.
The two traditional methods of storing engineering data:
• As flat files in .csv, .tab, or Excel format
• Within an industry-standard database
are fundamentally unsuited to the needs of small- to medium-sized engineering groups working with modern mixed-type and mixed-rate data.
Flat text file formats are not well-structured for the storage of mixed-type & mixed-rate data that may also include rich descriptive metadata. And it isn’t easy to manage and compare data across associated sets of flat files.
Databases offer central management of data, and can make it easier to compare data sets. Still, they are typically expensive to maintain and can result in an “IT barrier” that restricts ad-hoc viewing and analysis of data between members of the engineering group.
Some industry analysts have estimated that without a change in our approach to managing engineering data, only 5-10% of currently collected data will ever be critically analysed.
Elevate Controls’ Engineering Data Management Solution can be integrated with any stand-alone or networked data acquisition system. It is based on the open-standard TDMS (.tdms) file format originally developed by National Instruments.
The TDMS format is designed for optimal storage of mixed-type and mixed-rate data and can include unlimited user-configurable meta data. This makes it ideal for long-term archival storage of data because each file can be fully descriptive of its contents and the conditions under which it was acquired.
We offer several software frameworks that can be used to visualise, analyse, and report on the TDMS archive that are scalable from a single user with a stand-alone data acquisition system, to a 200 or more person engineering group with a networked system of 10-100+ measurement nodes.
The TDMS archive can exchange data in the traditional .csv, .tab, or Excel formats if this is required to meet external or legacy requirements.
Data without meaningful analysis and timely reporting & distribution has no value. Data management should never be an afterthought.
Elevate Controls supplies measurement and data acquisition systems with tightly integrated data management that ensures you extract maximum value from the data you collect.
This streamlines your data workflow, fast-tracks problem solving and business insights, and preserves data integrity into the future.
